Girard joined the firm as an associate in 2005 and became a member of the firm in 2009. In his civil practice, Girard concentrates on Civil Litigation, and has experience on a wide range of matters including landlord/tenant matters, personal injury, property rights, collections, contract disputes, banking law and education law. He also practices in the areas of wills and trusts, and real estate transactions. He also has significant experience in Probate Court litigation. Girard is admitted to practice in the Rhode Island State Courts and is also licensed to practice in Rhode Island Federal District Court.

In 2008, Girard was sworn in as the Assistant City Solicitor for Prosecutions for the City of Newport. In this role, Girard prosecutes all misdemeanor criminal matters and ordinance violations for the City. Girard also uses his significant trial experience as a prosecutor to benefit those in need of a defense to criminal charges from neighboring communities.

Girard grew up on Aquidneck Island. He is a magna cum laude graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and also attended the University of London in London, England. Prior to law school, Girard was employed by the House Armed Services Committee in the United States House of Representatives. He received his law degree from George Mason University School of Law, in Arlington, Virginia in May 2005. In his final semester of law school, Girard clerked for the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.

Girard and his family have significant ties to Newport and to the larger Aquidneck Island community. He served on the Newport County YMCA Board of Directors from 2007-2013 and served as the president of the Board from 2011-2013. Girard is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Newport Public Library. He is a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
